The Very Best of Ringo Starr

"...these snapshots also reveal the growth
of a true artist who continues to define
himself beyond th Fab Four."
Quincy Jones on Ringo Starr, 2007
So, about 30 years after A Blast From
Your Past, comes another one from the
past of the least appreciated of Beatles,
Ringo Starr.
This new 20 track collection of
remastered Starr solo efforts may rank
as one of the "best" ex-Beatle single
CD compilation, ever.
Because most of the first half of this
CD contains so many hits-including
two number one singles-and fave
album tracks that it reminds one of just
how high Starr had risen as an
ex-Beatle in the early 70s.
With good mate George Harrison as a
contributing songwriter and producer
of Starr perhaps signature tune-It Don't
Come Easy-Ringo was also smart
enough to surround himself with a
who's who of classic rock-makers.
How about Klaus Voorman on bass,
Nicky Hopkins on 88s,Jim Keltner on
skins, Booby Keys blowin' sax, John
Lennon on piano and vocal, Billy
Preston on electric piano. Elton John,
Robbie Robertson, and even Eric
Clapton.
Not too shabby of back-up band, eh?
Yes, it seemed that everyone who was
anyone wanted to lend a hand to "Billy
Shears," and a little help from those
friends in the studio helped create
many surprise hits from the Beatle that
by 1970 was sort of being written off as
a 60s freak of Beatle-nature.
This new Starr compilation also
features an excellent track by track
annotation, with many "Ringoisims"
giving his side of what the song is
about.
There's even some cheeky
Ringo-when-I-was-loaded-out-of-my-mi
nd-for-10-years stuff, in that certain
musical lineup for some tracks are
notes as "these musician credits are
based on research and best
recollections by the participants."
Yes, a splendid time was guaranteed
for all, even if you know can't recall it.
And with a single CD that contains
such mass appeal winners such as
Back Off Boogaloo, The No-No Song
and You're Sixteen, well, you just can't
help but sing along.
A deserved winner for Starr.
A treat for the fans.
