THE POLICE
Certifiable
Live In Buenos Aires
A&M

You know, there used to be a time
about 31 years ago that the Police
were considered to be on the
cutting edge of the edgy new "punk
rock" scene, and just about any
radio listener knew who/what
Roxanne was as well as that little
Sting guy having no last name.

Soon after they burst on the scene
in '77, though, the Police would
quickly cross over to a more rock
radio-friendly genre, morphing
away from their new wavish roots
to a more mainstream modality that
would go on to make the
threesome one of the biggest
selling rock acts of all time.

Yes, for 6 years the Police-men
rang up million seller after million
seller, but, there were problems.

American drummer Stew Copeland
had basically founded the group,
but Sting became the guiding force
and soon Stew and Sting wanted to
kill each other, at the very least.

The result was the Police were
disbanded in 1984, and the
members vowed to never cross
swords again, or even speak.

However, as Sting's solo careers
started to peter out, it suddenly
occurred to him that a two year
SRO stadium tour might be fun-and
bloody well damn profitable!

And so it came to be, and this nice
2 CD, 2 DVD souvenir of the big gig
in Argentina is proof that not only
do the fans still love them, but also
that their songs still hold up,
especially mixed in 5.1 audio.

Therefore, if you love the Police, this
set-which also includes a band
doc-may be the best X-Mas gift you
could get this year. Honest.
