JACKSON BROWNE
Solo Acoustic Vol. 2
Inside Recordings

Jackson Browne, he of the
"new" California country-rock
sound now some 40 years aged,
is strong here with his second
live acoustic offering in a row.

With just a little piano to fill in
the holes, Browne runs through
19 tracks totaling 70 minutes of
largely (recent) back catalogue,
with most of them of the
melacholic/reflective genre.

Except for a few tracks like
Somebody's Baby and
Redneck Friend, Browne
seems to present even the
somewhat happy songs as sad
ones, although as the saying
goes, they hurt so good.

But perhaps the stand-out track
on this volume is of a hurt that
was not good in any way.

In The Shape of A Heart, the
ballad of a failed Browne
relationship that led to a suicide
is an incredibly personal and
yet open song that is also
hauntingly hard to get out of
your head.

Jackson Browne can still relate,
to the everyman.
