ONE MAN BAND
SPECIAL EDITION CD/DVD
James Taylor
Hear Music

There's a line in Woody Allen's
great Annie Hall, where the
comic says that if he gets too
mellow, he has a tendency to
rot.

And well yes, James Taylor is
definitely still pretty mellow, no,
there is no sign of rot in this
new CD/DVD combo of a career
spanning show from the man
who was first given national
prominence from the Beatles'
Apple records in 1968.

The two hour show recorded
and filmed at the Colonial
Theatre in Taylor's beloved
hometown of Pittsfield
Massachusetts ranges from
Something In The Way She
Moves-Taylor's first recording
for Apple, and a title that George
Harrison liked a lot-to Fire and
Rain, and a lot in between as
well.

Both the CD and DVD contain
essentially the same show, but
the DVD is the real attraction,
here.

Presented in very good Dolby
5.1 Surround Sound, the
warmth and exquisite
harmonies of Taylor really come
shining through in the wide
sound stage that multi-channel
provides.

And Taylor's between song
patter on the DVD-along with a
home slide show-just adds
rather than subtracts from the
whole experience.

Make sure to watch for the
bizarre drum machine-shown at
the bottom left of this page-that
Taylor trots out for the song
Slap Leather.

Very un-mellow, but rather
joy-full, for sure.
