DEREK & the DOMINOS
Live in Concert
Import
One of the most famous
alter-egos in classic rock was
Derek AKA Eric Clapton.
Clapton and the
Dominos-Bobby Whitlock, Carl
Radle, Jim Gordon-was sort of
a B+ supergroup, and only
recorded one original LP.
Yet when that record yields the
iconic Layla, a song Clapton
wrote for George Harrison's
wife, Patty, it becomes
important A+ music history.
And while you can walk into
just about any well appointed
music seller and still pick up
the only studio album released
by Derek & the Dominos, their
only other original
release-Live- has been MIA for
some time.
But it is now available again,
and of all places, out of Korea.
Originally a two LP set
released in 1972 and culled
from 1971 gigs at the Fillmore
East, this double CD sounds
like it has been cleaned up
and/or remastered, although it
is difficult to ascertain with
most text in Korean.
Nevertheless, despite the
absence of Layla-which was
included in another Dominos
Fillmore compilation released a
decade ago- this release
includes most of the Dominos
studio LP, and contains the
most amazing version of Why
Does Love Have To Be So
Sad, which frankly blows away
any other released take.
This is Clapton at his peak.
