BOTTLE ROCKET
Director Approved
Criterion

This quirky little 1997 movie which
launched the great careers of the Wilson
Brother-Owen and Luke-and director
Wes Anderson, is on of those films that
you either get, and love, or think is
rubbish, and hate. A cult film, for sure.

And while we are not in the "love"
category, yet this upbeat, ironic and
understated, fun, funny comedy/drama
is certainly worth a viewing, and a
ponder as to what it really is all about.

Starting with the title, which none of the
creators seem to know why it was so
named. (Although a hint might be the
use of fireworks in the film, of which
Bottle Rocket is a well known banger.)

Nominally, the movie is the story of
three 20 something close friends who
do a sort of what-is-the-meaning-of-life
series of adventures and road-trips that
include at least three armed robberies,
including one involving the one thief's
family home.

Yet perhaps of most interest to the
movie buff is the star crossed history of
this film, that began life as 13 minute
short that ran at Sundance Film Festival,
in 1992.

The bonus disc in this collection
contains over half an hour of deleted
scenes,  a making of short, a director's
commentary that helps fill in some
questions you might have about the
film, the original B&W short film and a 30
minute doc that has nothing to do with
Bottle Rocket that has to be seen to
understood it's place in this collection.

If you enjoy weird genius, watch this and
prepare to be shocked, and wowed.
