Touristic Guidings To Minor
Nation Of U. S. And A, backed with
Touristic Guidings To Glorious
Nation Of Kazakhstan
By Borat Sagdiyev
Flying Dolphin Press
*Warnings! Be most careful to not leave
this book where it can be found by a small
child-or even worse-a woman. You will
recall the story of "the woman who read
the book." Her female brain was not
sufficient powerful for such a thing and
she became crazy inside head and killed
her husband with her own leg chains and
choke to death while eating her own
shoe."
Borat Sagdiyev
OK, so if my female readers are not
sufficiently ticked off to stop reading,
and the male ones have stopped
laughing, we can discuss this "book."
And unless one has been caged, most
of each gender will have heard of
Borat, (one) of the alter egos of wild UK
comic Sacha Baron Cohen.
If you are looking for a comparison of
Borat/Cohen's style of humour-and
leaving out the obvious, gross-a
comparable fit might be the old
National Lampoon magazine, and
Radio Hour, which was very popular
with Baby Boomers throughout the
1970s.
Unfortunately, I can not quote-or
show-you some of the most hysterical
stuff in this "dual" book, for fear of
offending some of my sponsors, who
monitor that sort of thing.
And if you tend to be of the politically
correct genre, you best stop reading
right now, and click on another BMR
item.
Yet if you have no use for PC, suffice to
say, much of this book-especially the
US side- is laugh-out-loud reading,
which does not happen so often.
Cohen has nailed the Borat character
so tightly, it is surely a doppler ganger
by now.
An amazing feat, for an observant Jew,
who manages to take off on his own
people and the faith with such devilish
relish.
And to add that Borat is himself a
bizarre misogynist, would be well
understated.
Under the heading of "Disadvantage Of
Women US And A," Borat complains
that they are expensive and "to keep
an American womans may take more
money than for a horse! Many of them
have been very spoiled and will be
used to meals every single day and to
sleep indoors at night...and unlike in
Kazakhstan, there is no law preventing
womens from speaking unless they are
spoken to and consequent they will do
a nag, nag, nag, nag, nag all the times.
Very boring."
So, for the women who are still, still
reading this, you get what I mean.
Yet how could anything Borat/Cohen
riffs on be taken seriously, or offend?
Courtney Love is identified as "Dolly
Partons," and Borat believes that the
Village People are indicative of regular
US males.
Oh, and of course Borat is
homophobic-calling homosexuals
"loo-lees," and is surprised that they
don't have to wear blue hats, as is the
supposed custom in Kazakhstan.
But honestly, this book that reads from
front to back, and from back to front is
really just a silly guilty pleasure and
therefore should be regarded as such.
Cohen's obviously over-the-top
stereotypes are in fact also too
sophisticated to not go over the head
of most real racists and hate mongers,
so in that context, no harm, no foul.
High five!
